After fans became worried that the upcoming Monster Hunter film wouldn’t feature weapons and items typically in the game franchise, a new photo shows off a decidedly iconic tool fans will undoubtedly recognize.
Milla Jovovich posted the picture in question on Instagram, showing off a slinger attached to her left arm and her body decked out in metal armor. The photo came with the following caption: “Captain Natalie Artemis. Ranger. Monster Hunter. Just a little peek for all the @monsterhunterworld fans out there who were worried the other day. Here is Captain Artemis wearing a ‘slinger’ on her arm. I will also post a pic at some point of some of the incredible MH weapons we’ve recreated for the film.”
Worries arose after actor Diego Boneta posted a picture of his character Sergeant Marshall holding an assault rifle while wearing modern military clothing. With both pictures out in the wild, it appears the film with have both modern weapons and more fantastical equipment that the game series is known for.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson has been discussing this film for quite some time, as in 2016 he described his dream for the movie to be centered around an average American who is pulled into a parallel world infested with monsters. “Then eventually the parallel world ends up coming to our world. So you have the creatures from the Monster Hunter world invading our world,” he said. With both photos, it seems this original plan has likely remained intact.
Principal photography for the film is currently underway in South Africa, and Anderson made it clear the movie will include some massive monsters. “I’m a long-term fan of the game,” said Anderson. “I’ve been trying to make this movie and talking to Capcom for ten years now, so it’s really a labor of love for me.”
